Elbows, double bends and multiple bends
- Enlarged ends - hose size should not exceed 33% more than the
hose size in the body of the hose.
Materials and construction meet SAE J20R4 Class A silicone for radiator
hose and SAE J20R3 for heater hose.
- Standard core color is red
- Standard jacket color is blue
- Reinforcement is a knitted aramid yarn
R4 Inside Diameter tolerance is +/- 0.8mm for hose sizes less than 70mm
and +/- 1.6mm for hose sizes 70mm and larger.
- The measurement method must be agreed upon by the supplier and
customer per SAE J20
R3 Inside Diameter and wall thickness tolerance is hose size
specific. Refer to SAE J20
R4 Wall Thickness is 4.95mm +/- 0.65mm for hose sizes smaller than 50.8mm
and 5.35mm +/- 1.05mm for hose sizes 50.8mm and larger.
- Wall thickness is measured 4 places 90 degrees apart and averaged
per SAE J20. If another procedure is used the measurement method
must be agreed upon by the supplier and customer per SAE J20
- Wall thickness in the bend area of a curved hose may differ from
the wall in the straight section by no more than 33% per SAE J20.
- The wall thickness and tolerance on enlarged sized hose ends must
be agreed upon between supplier and customer per SAE J20.
- For SAE J20R3 and R4 thin wall dimensions and precision
tolerances refer to SAE J2387 Tables 1a through 4B.
Outside contour will be within 9.6mm of the theoretical outside contour of
the hose when both ends are mounted in theoretical design position per SAE
J20.
